UNDERWATER CLEANUP TEAM – KALYMNOS

He was born in Kalymnos the year 1992 and since he was 2 years old he started familiarizing himself with the sea and the marine environment. Growing up from all the sports available he choose swimming as his favorite sport eventhough the public facilities did not allow annual practices. As a student he used to clean up beaches and the seabed with his friends. In 2015 he graduated from Physical Education from the Kapodistrian Univercity of Athens and he choose swimming as his recidency.

At 2018 Mihalis founded Proteas Nautical Sports Club of Kalymnos a mainly swimming club with the soul purpose to give the opportunity to the talented athletes of Kalymnos to compete in greater swimming meets as well as to promote the environmental concusness of the athletes. This year only the club organized 10 coastal and underwater cleanups removing the total amount of 8.000 kgs of garbage from the beaches and sea floor of Kalymnos. The athletes and the club fully aware of environmental issues will keep on taking action against environmental pollution in Kalymnos as well as competing in swimming meets at a national stage. Mihalis is a professional freediver licensed by Apnea Academy international, he is also a professional lifeguard and a lifeguard coach, a Skipper and an emergency first responder instructor licensed from PADI.
