All For Blue | Ftelia Beach, Mykonos 2017

Today, June 3rd 2017, we had a small—but efficient—group gathering at Ftelia Beach in Mykonos, Greece to clean the sandy shore and shallow waters from plastic in order to create a permanent paradise!

Thanks to our volunteers, who ranged from 2 to 60 years of age, the aquatic life and sunbathers will get to enjoy the beauty of Ftelia beach without all the plastic, that is not only unpleasant to look at but also a danger to our planet! At one point in the clean up, one of the children came up to me and told me, “I want to be a diver just like you when I grow up!” I’m so grateful to have made such an impact on his life and I hope he pursues this dream!

I was surprised by how few volunteers participated in this clean up, particularly because Mykonos is the place I live and work. I expected many others to come out and help. I want to use the lack of participation in this clean up as a reminder to my neighbors that the work will not get done by itself! We must unite and overcome this issue together, to make a difference on our planet and preserve the beaches we call our home!
