Cleanup in Thessaloniki

All For Blue traveled to Thessaloniki! As part of our ongoing collaboration with the company ENAON, and following the successful cleanup operation in Athens, we completed another cleanup with the goal of protecting the environment and restoring the natural beauty of another beach.

Our action took place on Friday, September 20t, at a beach in the Municipality of Pylaia-Hortiatis in honor of World Cleanup Day. Five volunteer members of our organization traveled from Athens and joined forces with the employees of ENAON.

We were honored by the presence of the Mayor of Pylaia-Chortiatis and President of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Central Macedonia, Mr. Ignatios Kaitezidis, as well as the Deputy Mayors Ms. Giannoudi, Mr. Kartalis, and Mr. Babatarzos. We also had the Managing Director of Enaon, Ms. Barbara Morgante, the Consultant of Enaon’s subsidiary, EDA, Ms. Francesca Zanninotti, and volunteers from Civil Protection. The contribution of the employees from the sanitation department was especially significant, as they assisted us with the collection of waste and the removal of large items.

Our volunteers collected a total of 172 kg of waste from the beach and the seabed. Many plastic bottles and aluminum cans, as well as microplastics, were found on the beach. Volunteers also collected a tractor tire, plastic crates and buckets, and even a plastic table. Among other items, divers retrieved four car tires from the seabed, which had been buried and polluting the marine environment.

We would like to thank ENAON for their enthusiasm in executing the second cleanup event and supporting the work of All For Blue. Additionally, we thank the Municipality of Pylaia-Hortiatis for sending representatives to our event, as well as the Thessaloniki Port Authority, which ensured the safety of our divers by providing a boat throughout the operation. Finally, we thank all the All For Blue volunteers who supported us with their presence.
