Double action in Rhodes and Crete

Once again this year, we are continuing our strong partnership with Aurinkomatkat through a double environmental initiative in Crete and Rhodes. On Wednesday, October 9th, and Friday, October 11th, employees from the company, both from Finland and the two islands, came together with a shared goal of making a difference by protecting the environment.

Having already attended All For Blue’s online seminar, all participants enthusiastically took part in two beach cleanups, focusing on a selected beach on each island. Equipped with reusable gear provided by All For Blue and guided by the organization’s volunteers, the participants successfully collected a total of 126 kg of waste from both coasts. Among the items found were countless cigarette butts, a common sight on busy beaches.

In Rhodes, our team expanded the effort by organizing an underwater cleanup. Divers, using equipment provided by Waterhoppers Dive Center, retrieved approximately 30 kg of waste from the seabed. Some of the collected items were ropes, pieces of fishing gear, and two snorkeling masks. The most remarkable find was the 20 kg frame of a beach umbrella.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Aurinkomatkat team for their participation in this dual initiative and for our long-standing collaboration. We also thank the port authorities of Rhodes and Chania, representatives from the Municipality of Rhodes and the Municipality of Platanias for assisting in the waste collection, as well as the Waterhoppers Dive Center for their invaluable support in executing the cleanups.
