Environmental Action: The sea is our life

As part of the “EPAS Schools Ambassadors of the European Parliament” program, on Friday, March 28, 2025, the Music School of Rhodes held an event entitled: “The Sea is our Life!”, on the Environment and Climate Change with an experiential nature in collaboration with the Greek Environmental Organization All For Blue.

The event was attended by:
    • 9:00 – 9:30 MEP Sakis Arnaoutoglou spoke online with students about Climate Change and the need to take action for the environment, starting with action by first changing our behavior.
    • The representative of Europe Direct South Aegean (Ms. Filia Pappasavva)
    • 9:30 – 10:45 in the amphitheater of the Music School, an educational training-seminar was held on the topic: ” The protection of the marine ecosystem and sharks / experiential action coastal and underwater cleanups” by the volunteer group, All For Blue to all the students of our school. The speakers of the seminar in Rhodes were:
    • Katerina Topouzoglou, Founder of All For Blue, Freediving & Scuba Diving Instructor, Shark Conservation Instructor
    • Vasilis Kalogeropoulos, Instructor and international Freediving judge
    • Maria Rapti, Scuba Diving Instructor
    • Christina Georgiou, Biologist / Oceanologist
    • Musical accompaniment of the event by the students of the Music School.
    • A coastal clean-up followed from 11:00 to 13:00, at Faliraki beach by the students of the Music School of Rhodes with the help of the volunteers of the ” ALL FOR BLUE ” group and the accompanying teachers of the School. There was also an underwater clean-up by divers of the group. The 1st Primary School of Kalythia, Rhodes also participated in the voluntary clean-up .
    • Waste was collected using reusable gloves in cloth bags. 350 kilos of waste were collected and weighed.
    • The objectives of the action – event are to raise awareness, both among the school community and the local society, about the need to protect the Marine Ecosystem, through the promotion of the value of Volunteerism.

The training of our school students was based on the 3-year Environmental Program, TUI Junior Academy by All For Blue. The program started in September 2023 in Rhodes and is operated by the Greek Environmental Organization All For Blue (  www.allforblue.org  ) with the support of the TUI Group /  TUI Care Foundation and the Administration of the South Aegean Region / Rhodes Co-Lab Project.

To date, over 12,000 students from 68 primary and secondary education units on the island have attended All For Blue’s educational seminars on the protection of the marine ecosystem and participated in coastal cleanups on Rhodes beaches.
In May, the second environmental art competition will take place among the member-participating schools, with works from recyclable materials by the students, which will be exhibited at the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce for voting and awarding of the best participation.
