Our Little Hero of All For Blue: Iakovos and His Love for the Seas

At All For Blue, we believe that love and care for the environment know no age. Today, we want to introduce you to a very special young friend and volunteer, Iakovos. Through his innocent and enthusiastic answers, you’ll understand why hope for a cleaner future lies in the hands of children too. Let’s read the interview he shared with us:

“Do you remember the first time you came to the beach to clean it? You were very young! What did you like back then?”

“I remember the first time I came to clean the beach. I found a little toy turtle in the rubbish on the beach, and I still have it.”

“What do you like now that you come and help at the beach? What’s the best thing?”

“Every time I go to a beach cleanup, I like cleaning the sea to save the lives of marine species. It’s important to collect rubbish from the beaches and the sea to help the environment.”

“Have you ever found anything strange or interesting while cleaning? What was it?”

“The most interesting thing when I clean the beaches is when I encounter marine species. One day we found an injured turtle and called an organization and the coast guard. But a few days ago, I found a shark egg in some green nets that the waves had brought in. And I knew it was one because of its shape, and I’ve seen it in documentaries about sharks. I couldn’t believe it, I was so happy!”

“Why do you like to help and clean the beach?”

“When I see a lot of rubbish in the sand, I think about the animals being in danger, and then I immediately take it out of the sand to save them.”

“Do you like being with the other volunteers? Do you hang out?”

“Yes, I really like being with the other volunteers, and I keep getting my other friends to come too!”

“What do you think when you see a lot of rubbish on the sand?”

“When I see a lot of rubbish in the sand, I think about the animals being in danger, and then I immediately take it out of the sand to save them.”

“Have you learned anything about the sea and the animals that live there since you’ve been helping?”

“I’ve learned a lot about rubbish and the sea, like how rubbish ends up in our food. I really like the ocean, and I watch documentaries all the time to learn new things.”

“If you had a magic power to change something on the beach, what would it be?”

“With my magic power, I would transform into Aquaman and help all the animals in the sea.”

“What would you say to another child to convince them to come and help too?”

“I would say to other kids, do you want to come with me to clean the beaches and help the animals? Angel sharks are endangered, and I want to help them.”

“What is the happiest memory you have from the cleanups?”

“I really like it during cleanups when I find things that I can reuse, like toys, and when I find rare things. I really want to find a shark tooth one day, and when I grow up, I’m going to be an oceanographer and explorer and animal observer.”

Young Iakovos’s love and passion for protecting the environment are a source of inspiration for all of us at All For Blue. He shows us that change begins with small actions and that each one of us, regardless of age, can make a difference. Thank you, Iakovos, for your shining example! We continue together for a world with clean seas and healthy ecosystems.
