Our team returned once again to the island of Rhodes as part of the TUI Junior Academy by All For Blue, supported by the TUI Care Foundation within the Rhodes Co-Lab initiative. This time, we had the pleasure of engaging with 700 students from schools across the Municipality of Rhodes. We shared knowledge about marine biodiversity and organized both coastal and underwater cleanups at three beautiful beaches on the island.
The educational seminars took place at the 1st and 2nd Kindergarten of Kremasti, the 12th Primary School of Rhodes, and the Music Junior High School of Rhodes. The students participated with great enthusiasm, expressed their love for the environment, and impressed us with their insightful questions.
In the second part of the initiative, students and teachers put theory into practice by taking part in coastal cleanups at Kremasti Beach, Faliraki, and Enidreio. In total, over 300 kilograms of waste were collected. At the same time, underwater cleanups were carried out by the All For Blue diving team, who discovered and removed various objects from the seabed. Among the most unusual finds were a toilet seat and a large beach umbrella!
The cleanup at Faliraki stood out as particularly special. Students from the Music Junior High School of Rhodes accompanied the activity with live music, creating a festive and positive atmosphere. In fact, students and volunteers had the opportunity to speak live about their experience on ERT3’s “Perimetros” show, and we warmly thank the team for covering the action.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participating students and teachers, as well as to our partners, the Municipality of Rhodes and the Port Authority, for their support. A big thank-you also goes out to our incredible volunteers and divers, who once again played a vital role in making this initiative a success.
